At the AJTK Innovation online event, we analysed Hungary's space activities, the aspirations, opportunities and realities of the Hungarian space industry, as well as its impact and significance on society. The speakers of the event were Dr. Árpád Rab Szörény and Dr. László Bacsárdi.

Dr. Árpád Rab is a senior researcher at the Information Society Research Institute of the National University of Public Administration, associate professor at the Corvinus University of Budapest and researcher in the Space Social Science Research Center of the National Civil Service University.

Dr. László Bacsárdi is an associate professor, head of the laboratory at the Laboratory of Mobile Communication and Quantum Technologies of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and vice-president of the Hungarian Astronautical Society - MANT.

The lecture was started by Dr. Árpád Szörény Rab, who started his presentation with a short historical overview, then examined the effects of space research and the new space era on society, furthermore he talked about the nature of the cooperation of nations.

Dr. László Bacsárdi's presentation was about space technology, the possibilities in space, the role of small satellites, our relationship with ESA, selected space telecommunications areas and national security issues.

The event was extremely interesting, as evidenced by the amount of questions the speakers received on Facebook and Zoom.

Find some of them as examples below:

  • Are there more alliances or disintegrations and a new Cold War in space exploration?
  • Do new techniques and images bring those who are interested closer to environmental problems?

In the last 20 minutes of the event, the speakers were ready to answer questions from participants and moderators.

The event was realised with the support of the Prime Minister’s Office of Hungary and the Bethlen Gábor Foundation.
