The 3rd Talent Academy event of the autumn semester, entitled Outstandingly Successful Youth–Tech Sector, was held online from 7pm on 7 December 2020.

High school students who are interested in artificial intelligence and robotics, in IT and mechatronics courses, and  would like to work in the tech sector were present at the event. Our guests in the first programme of our Outstandingly Successful Youth series were Donát Hegyesi and Balázs Nagy.

Donát Hegyesi built his first work at the age of 15, a watch, which was showed the exact time, his schedule, and the current bus schedule. As a high school student, he developed a poker robot for 2.5 years that was able to play cards with people thanks to his own specifically developed robot arm, camera system, and the software that controls them . He began his undergraduate studies in mechatronics engineering at BME, then completed his master’s degree in Control Systems at Imperial College London in England in 2018-2019. As a student, his research interests were balancing and walking, therefore, he created a a humanoid robot that has 25 degrees of freedom.. He is currently working as a robot software development engineer at OnRobot's Budapest Office, mainly using mathematical algorithms for industrial robot faculties.

After completing his BSc and MSc studies, Balázs Nagy graduated in 2017 from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics as a mechatronics engineer. He is currently researching as a doctoral student; his main areas of research are etorobotics and the processing of sensor signals with learning algorithms. During his career, he has participated in several university projects and turned around in a tech industry. He gained his experience abroad in Japan, where he spent half a year at Shizuoka.

The lecture was started by Balázs, who gave a detailed presentation to the high school students about his own experiences, the courses available at BME, the study experiences abroad and at home, and the professional organizations available at the university. In the second half of the event, Donát talked about the current situation in the tech sector, what experiences he had, right from high school. He reported in detail on his projects from a very young age. He also shared his university experience both from Hungary and England. He also talked about how he can improve himself, how he learned initially without any help from a very young age.

The event closed with questions from the students, who could also ask the speakers on Zoom and Facebook.

The event was realised with the support of the Prime Minister’s Office of Hungary and the Bethlen Gábor Foundation.
